Record numbers of participants took part in Tallink Maijooks Virtual Run

This year, Estonia’s largest mass sport event for women Tallink Maijooks (Tallink May Run) took place on May 1 - May 31 as a virtual race. A total of 9,138 recreational athletes signed up for the seven kilometer main race, three kilometer RIMI Girls’ Race, and numerous kids’ races.

Due to corona restrictions, May Run took place as a virtual race for the second year in a row. 9,139 recreational athletes - nearly 50% more than last year - signed up for the race that enjoyed the highest number of participants among virtual sporting events held in Estonia this year. 5,227 sporty women ran, walked, or Nordic walked May Run’s seven kilometer main race, 343 girls and young women undertook the three kilometer RIMI Girls’ Race, and 3,568 little exercise enthusiasts registered for the Kids’ Races.    

 

The fastest women for the Virtual May Run’s main race were Kristel Vallaste and Liina Kivi that completed the seven kilometer race running together in 27 minutes and 54 seconds. The oldest participant was Viktoria who is 84 years old. North Estonia Medical Centre with 227 participants won the title of the body with the greatest number of participants. Tallinn Ümera Kindergarten with 165 running little ones boasted the highest number of participants in a kids’ race. The participant with the most popular name was Katrin - exactly 100 Katrins took part in May Run. Nine participants are proud wearers of the name Mai.

 

All Estonian counties were represented at the Virtual Tallink May Run. May Run also had participants in twenty two foreign nations: Finland, Germany, the United States, Argentina, Mexico, Hungary, Belgium, Ireland, Latvia, Luxembourg, Norway, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, China, Ethiopia, Surinam, Colombia, Italy, England, Denmark, and Ukraine.

 

All of the virtual race participants received by post or via our superb courier partner DPD a unique medal, while participants in the main race enjoyed an additional gift bag from our supporters.   

 

Maijooks - May Run - is a health and exercise event especially for women that has had the greatest number of participants and benefits from the longest-standing tradition among similar events in Estonia: more than two hundred thousand awesome women have had a sporty great time at this event. The first May Run took place in 1988.
